The morning of nativity play, Sunday 18th December, brought several unexpected challenges as our cast was cut in half, due to illness! After much thought and discussion, the youngsters were still keen, so we decided to go ahead with some of them now performing several roles! Lily, one of our older members, offered to fill the very necessary part of Mary, helping us fill-in the last gap.

The unusual script featured the first Christmas, through the eyes of a Roman soldier, who was responsible for taking the Census in Bethlehem. He just wants to get the job done and go home, he is sure that an insignificant, boring town like Bethlehem will hold nothing special for him  but instead he is left confused and dumbfounded as he meets all the usual  characters of a traditional Nativity play, who tell  him their stories -what they had seen and heard – much to his disbelief and annoyance.

Our Roman solder certainly does not believe in angels!  Until, at the end, he meets Gabriel who surprises him and encourages him to meet Jesus for himself.

Thank you to the youngsters who so brilliantly acted-out the play as well as all who attended, helped, supplied sausage rolls and mince pies and especially to Don for supplying the mulled wine.

Our thanks to HATs, who provided the lights and the Cook family for “infrastructure!” £116 was made for the children of Ukraine on the bring and buy.
