We watched some of the photos from our Horstead trip on the TV and reminisced about the day.  We made a thank you card that we would send to the instructors, who made the day so special.

Back for our first session of the new term we shared lots of news with each other.  It was good to be back together and we started by mixing melted butter with melted marsh mellows, red food colour and rice Krispies.  We pressed this into a baking tray and put it in the fridge for later.

Our session was about blind Bartimaeus the story of Jesus healing someone who was on the edge of society, shunned by the religious leaders and ignored by most of the population, because of his blindness.

We re-created the story by blindfolding the JAM members and then going through the events of the day narrating with added sound effects. When we came to the point where Jesus healed Bartimaeus, we asked the children to take off their masks and they could then see again.

We thought about people who are different to us and how we may feel about them.  We prayed for people we knew who were ill or struggling, for whatever reason and thanked God for our sight.

We had a quiz where we had to guess objects being dropped (without being able to see them) and listened to God of the Poor – one of the hymns that Hannah from Foodbank had chosen, last week in our harvest service.

We took the trays out of the fridge and then used heart shaped cookie cutters to take red “hearts” out of the slabs of sticky rice Krispies (not an easy process), we then put lolly sticks in the hearts and put them onto plates to take home and give to anyone we wanted to show love for.
