For two thousand years people have been fascinated by the person of Jesus. He has inspired ordinary individuals and leaders of empires. He has been interpreted, followed, argued over and worshipped all over the world. Even our calendar is organised around his birth.

The story of Jesus runs right through the bible but is most obviously found in the New Testament. The bible has two main sections: the Old Testament, consisting of 39 books from the Jewish tradition and the New Testament (consisting of 27 books written about Jesus and his followers). The New Testament starts with the 4 gospels which each tell Jesus’ life story, then the Acts of the Apostles – about how Jesus’ story spread after His death and resurrection – and a series of letters written by early Christians giving guidance on how to follow Jesus. Bible Gateway is a good place to explore the bible online.
