David and Goliath – 8th Feb 2026

This week at JAM, we explored the story of David and Goliath in a deeper way. The children listened carefully to the story and brought it to life with dynamic sound effects – twanging harps, roaring lions, loud “baa” sheep noises, and dramatic slinging actions! It was wonderful to see them so fully engaged as the story unfolded.

We also watched the video above, to help us understand David’s courage and trust in God.

Our themed games helped the story really stick. In one activity, the children stood behind a line and practiced their aim by throwing a ball to knock down a tall tube-remembering David’s focus and bravery. . In another fun challenge, the children split into two teams, using beanbags to try to knock over a stacked bucket before the other team. Finally, in a carefully supervised activity, the children used a slingshot with soft balls (representing pebbles) to aim at a cardboard “Goliath.” When gently hit, Goliaths head wobbled back and forth! A few of the children even managed to hit him on the forehead, just like in the bible story. It was all done in a playful and safe way, helping the children remember that the heart of the story is about trusting God when we face big challenges.

We also shared a meaningful prayer time. The children were invited to pick up a pebble and sit quietly, thinking about anything they wanted to give to God – worries, concerns, anxieties, or things they were grateful for.

They could talk to God in their own works.

When they were ready, they placed their pebble into a bowl of water as a symbol of handing those things over to Him.

It was a joyful, energetic, and thoughtful session – reminding us that with Gods help, even the biggest “giants” can be faced with courage and faith.
