JAM – Abigail the Peacemaker

JAM – Abigail the Peacemaker
This week at JAM, we immersed ourselves in the story of Abigail the Peacemaker (1 Samuel 25). We talked about how peace isn’t just about kindness-it’s about listening, helping, and being someone who brings calm to others. We asked ourselves: when have we been peacemakers, and how can we continue to be?

We started with a fun activity-icing cakes and decorating them with peace
flags, topped with Jelly Babies! We learned that Jelly Babies were originally known as “Peace Babies,” created to celebrate harmony after World War I.
We then watched a short video of Abigail’s story-how her courage and wisdom helped prevent conflict. After that, we dove into our Whoosh game! The children enthusiastically acted out each part of the story, stepping into the roles of David, Abigail, and more.
After our Whoosh, we sang May the God of Hope, a song reminding us of the peace and hope we can bring to others.
We reflected on Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers.” The children shared their own stories-times they’ve listened to a friend or helped someone in need. We talked about how peace starts in small ways such as a kind word or a listening ear.

We talked about how a white flag is recognised around the world as a sign of surrender, truce and peace. We then followed this up by creating our own flags from fabric, decorating them with words, symbols and pictures that represented peace to us.
During our prayer time, we folded our arms tightly as we thought about something that was causing us discontent. As we prayed, we slowly opened our arms, releasing it to Jesus and asking Him to fill us with His peace. We prayed that God would help us to be peacemakers wherever we go.
We all enjoyed learning about Abigail’s courage and were reminded that being a peacemaker can be as simple as listening, helping someone or choosing kind words.
