JAM – David and Mephibosheth 20.09.2026
At JAM, we focused on David and Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son. We learned how David remembered the promise he had made to his best friend, Jonathan, and wanted to show love and kindness to his son. Although Mephibosheth was frightened when he was brought before the king, David welcomed him, cared for him and invited him to eat at his table. We had our own banquet, imagining how Mephibosheth may have felt being welcomed to the king’s table and thinking about how we can make others feel valued and included.
We played a game to help us learn how to spell Mephibosheth, racing as teams to collect the letters and put his name together.
Before we prayed, we used spoons to look at our reflections. When we looked into one side, we could see ourselves clearly, but when we turned the spoon around, our faces became distorted. This helped us think about how other people may see us differently from how we see ourselves, and how important it is not to judge people by appearances but to remember that everyone is valuable. We then prayed about this together.
We made pocket crosses as a reminder that we are loved and never alone. We began drawing self-portraits for the shoeboxes we are sending at Christmas, and also made bracelets as gifts for the children, thinking about how we can show kindness and let others know they are valued and loved.
We also enjoyed singing ‘Big Family of God’ by Nick and Becky Drake, which fitted beautifully with our theme of welcoming others and remembering that we are all part of God’s family. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_F5pr6gEkBU
